The Loan Fund staff took to the streets on May 15, running, speed-walking or otherwise finishing in Montpelier’s 31st Annual Corporate Cup race, part of the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
Nine VCLF staff members donned their numbers and running shoes, some making their personal best times, in the 5k event.
“We love participating in this event,” said VCLF Executive Director Will Belongia, a walker in this year’s race. “More and more, we’re addressing health and well-being at VCLF, and the Corporate Cup is really a fun way to do that,” he said. Belongia finished in 44 minutes and 40 seconds.
Sam Buckley, well respected among the staff as a dedicated runner, clocked an enviable eight minute, seventeen second mile to finish the run in just over 25 minutes. But to Buckley, it’s not just about the competition. “It’s great to get out there, amongst the sea of runners and people you know from the community and just have a great time,” Buckley said.
This year’s Corporate Cup broke its own record, with almost 4,000 runners and walkers participating.
