I was nervous in the present economy to get a loan, but it was nice to have the Loan Fund there.  I didn't realize how necessary their work is in Vermont, especially to the child care industry.

The numbers are in!

“2016 was another strong year for the Loan Fund, in terms of creating and preserving quality jobs, providing access to vital community services, affordable housing and high quality child care and early education across Vermont,” said VCLF Executive Director Will Belongia.

In 2016, VCLF’s loan program staff closed 22 loans totaling $3.45 million. Those dollars leveraged an additional $8.13 million in project support in the form of owner equity and loans from traditional lenders.

But the true impact of the Loan Fund’s work isn’t measured in dollars and cents; it’s measured in quality jobs, affordable homes, children receiving quality early care & education, healthy food produced, and so much more. Our work in 2016 created or preserved jobs for 279 Vermonters, financed the construction or rehabilitation of 67 safe, affordable homes and created or preserved quality early care & education for 176 children and their families. New lending in 2016 financed the production of almost 7.6 million pounds of Vermont food, and resulted in 273 acres of working landscape in production. We also provided 1,217 hours of one-on-one business development assistance to 60 entrepreneurs.

By the end of the year, tallies of the Loan Fund’s complete portfolio showed 234 loans totaling $28.7 million, representing jobs for 1,988 Vermonters, 1,396 affordable homes, child care for 1,556 children and essential services for over 43,000 Vermonters.

Since our inception 30 years ago, VCLF has loaned $95 million to create or preserve jobs for 5,600 Vermonters, build or rehabilitate safe, affordable homes for 4,000 families, create or preserve quality early care & education for 3,850 Vermont children & families and support community organizations providing essential services to hundreds of thousands of Vermonters.
