It is extremely important that my money not do things I'm morally unwilling to do myself.

Socially responsible investing with the Vermont Community Loan Fund is an effective way to support Vermonters and their communities.  We are fortunate to have so many investors that share our story with others and in turn, help generate more lending capital. You may have heard Vermont State Treasurer Jeb Spaulding mention VCLF on the November 18th, 2003 edition of Switchboard on Vermont Public Radio.

Responding to a caller’s question as to how he could invest in local communities and businesses, Mr. Spaulding replied “We have organizations such as the Vermont Community Loan Fund in Vermont that I’m looking at as the State Treasurer to see if we can invest a small amount of money that is essentially cash right now, and invest it at a relatively low interest rate and get a competitive rate with the Vermont Community Loan Fund.  They in turn make loans to small businesses in Vermont.”

This past winter, the Vermont State Legislature granted permission to the State to invest up to $200,000 with the Vermont Community Loan Fund.  State Treasurer Jeb Spaulding was instrumental in getting this item through the legislature.  Upon its passage, the State Treasurer’s Department quickly set to work structuring the investment.

This spring, the Vermont State Treasurer’s Office finalized a $100,000 investment with the Vermont Community Loan Fund.  This investment will provide much needed lending capital to support VCLF loans. “It’s fantastic to add the State of Vermont to our list of investors,” comments CFO Will Belongia, who worked to finalize the investment. “State Treasurer Jeb Spaulding has frequently advocated on our behalf.  By placing an investment with VCLF, the State of Vermont sets an example of social responsibility.”
